Herbs or suffruticose plants, to 1.5 m tall, covered with septate hairs; stems erect, square, angles obtuse, prominent, puberulent or villous, densely so at nodes.
Leaves petiolate; petioles puberulent or villous, 1–4 cm long; blades ovate to broadly ovate, often irregularly cleft, 4–12 cm long, 3–8 cm wide, base obtuse to cuneate, apex acute to caudate, margins coarsely serrate, both surfaces puberulent or villous, sparsely to densely hairy on veinlets, lower surface glandular dotted, veinlets prominent on both surfaces.
Inflorescences 2-flowered verticillate cymes, forming axillary and terminal racemes, to 15 cm long; bracteoles rhomboid caudate, minutely hairy, 1–3 mm long. Flowers pedicellate; calyx campanulate, bilabiate, 3–4 mm long at anthesis, 8–11 mm long in fruit, minutely hairy in throat, upper lip 3-toothed, teeth narrowly triangular at anthesis, broadly triangular in fruit, lower lip 2-toothed, teeth narrowly triangular; corolla tubular, short, bilabiate, upper lip 2-lobed, lobe ovate, lower lip 3-lobed, central lobe broadly ovate, lateral lobes 2, ovate, puberulent inside lower lip and throat.
Nutlets globose, reticulate, 1.1 mm wide.
